Gough and Bothun Pick Up CHA Player of Week Accolades

WINTHOP, Mass. – The Penn State women's hockey team had two student-athletes recognized for their individual play last weekend as CHA players of the week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Junior forward Julie Gough (Newcastle, Ontario) was named the CHA Forward of the Week and sophomore goaltender Josie Bothun (Wyoming, Minn.) was selected as CHA Goaltender of the Week.

Gough has been on a special run of late as one of the Nittany Lions' top scoring forwards. She tallied four points with two goals and two assists in last weekend's series split at Mercyhurst by scoring one goal and one assist in both contests.

With goals in both games of the series, Gough extended her current goal-scoring streak to five games in a row, which is tied for the second-longest goal scoring streak in program history (7, Shannon Yoxheimer).

During the hot streak, Gough has five goals and three assists with 15 shots on goal. Three of her goals have come on the power play to spark Penn State's advantage unit.

As Gough and Penn State's offense got going on one end of the ice, Bothun and the defense were locking down the play on the other end, especially on Sunday as Bothun earned her first shutout of the season in PSU's 3-0 win.

The shutout was the fifth of the career for Bothun as she moves alone into second place on the program's career shutout list.

In 10 starts this season, Bothun has allowed two-or-less goals in nine of them. Her 1.85 GAA also leads the CHA even with the most games played and started of all league goaltenders.

The goalie of the week nod is the third of the season for Bothun.

Bothun, Gough and the Nittany Lions return to home ice at Pegula Ice Arena this coming weekend to host Lindenwood in a CHA series Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6. Friday's game begins at 6 p.m. with Saturday's puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
