Eleven Nittany Lion Wrestlers Compete at Bearcat Open and Journeymen Collegiate Classic

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team had wrestlers compete in two different events on Sunday. Seven members the Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team competed at the Bearcat Open in Binghamton, N.Y., while four others wrestled at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, Pa.), site of Penn State's season opening duals the night before.
 
Seven Penn Staters travelled to Binghamton University for the Bearcat Open.
 
Freshman Matt Lee (Evansville, Ind.) took second place at 165. Lee went 4-1 with a tech fall, winning four straight before losing in the finals. Freshman Jack Kelly (Little Silver, N.J.) placed sixth at 174, including two pins. Kelly lost his first match but rebounded for the sixth-place finish. Freshman David Evans (Tunkhannock, Pa.) won three straight bouts at 133 before ending his action for the day. Evans had a pin and finished fourth.
 
Freshman Aurelius Dunbar (Greencastle, Pa.) had a good run at 157, going 4-2 overall. Freshman Brian Borden (Rupert, Idaho) went 2-2 with a major at 165. Senior Levko Higgins (Palmyra, Pa.) posted a 2-2 mark with a major at 197. Junior Imran Heard (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also competed at 149.
 
Four Lions took part in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Spooky Nook, a unique round-robin bracketed event, featuring 4-6 wrestlers per pool
 
Sophomore Michael Beard (Pottstown, Pa.) was a perfect 3-0 on the day in his pooled bracket at 197. Beard had two majors and a tech fall. One of Beard's two major victories was an impressive 14-6 win over No. 20 J.T. Brown of Army West Point.
 
Junior Paul Feite (Dillsburg, Pa.) went 2-1 with two pins at 149, his lone loss came in overtime. Sophomore Donovon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa.) went 2-1 at 184, picking up a major along the way. Senior Austin Hoopes (Afton, Wyo.) posted a 2-1 record at 285 with one pin as well.
