UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's basketball junior guard Makenna Marisa was tabbed Big Ten Co-Player of the Week by the conference on Monday. Marisa earned her first career Big Ten weekly honor.
In Tuesday's 120-51 win over Delaware State, Marisa recorded Penn State's first triple-double as a Big Ten member with 30 points (12-of-16), 11 assists and 10 steals. All three numbers were career highs. Marisa scored 20 points in the first half.
Marisa earned Penn State's first triple-double since joining the Big Ten and became the first Lady Lion to post a triple-double since Suzie McConnell in 1988 vs. Western Kentucky.
Marisa's triple-double is the 25th Points-Assists-Steals triple-double and 20th 30-point triple-double in NCAA Division I history. She notched the third 30-point triple-double and second Points-Assists-Steals triple-double in Big Ten history.
The junior followed that with 29 points, five rebounds and eight assists at Clemson on Sunday. Marisa tallied 17 points in the first half.
Marisa has reached double-figures in all four games this season and has at least 20 points in three-straight games.
The Pennsylvania native leads the Big Ten averaging 23.0 points and 4.0 three-pointers per game. She also sits fourth in the conference in assists per game, 6.3, and second in steals per game, 3.67.
Penn State competes in the Gulf Coast Showcase, beginning on Friday, Nov. 26 against St. John's. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with a broadcast on FloHoops.
The Lady Lions will meet either Iowa State or Charlotte on Saturday, Nov. 27 with a tipoff time TBD and will finish the invitational on Sunday, Nov. 28.
