UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State women's soccer captains Sam Coffey, Kerry Abello and Ally Schlegel earned All-North Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches announced on Monday.
Seniors Coffey and Abello were named to the first-team All-North region while redshirt junior Schlegel was added to the second-team All-North region.
Coffey earns her third straight first team All-North region honor as a member of the Nittany Lions and the fourth of her career (2018 – Boston College). The forward finished the 2021 season with 8 goals and 8 assists while starting all 21 games for the Nittany Lions.
Abello brings home the third All-Region honor of her Penn State career. She was named to the All-North Region second team in 2019 and third team in 2018. Abello started 20 of 21 games this season and scored 2 goals and had 3 assists.
This season also saw both Coffey and Abello earn first team All-Big Ten honors and be named to the 2021 COSIDA Academic All-District First Team.
Schlegel earns her third consecutive All-North region honor. She earned first-team recognition in both 2019 and spring 2021. This season the redshirt junior led the team in goals with 10 and tallied 4 assists while starting all 21 matches. She was also named second team All-Big Ten.
Penn State has now collected 74 first team All-Region honors in its 27-year program history.
The Nittany Lions finished the season 12-8-1 and appeared in the NCAA Sweet-16 for the fifth consecutive season and for the seventh time in eight seasons.
