Track & Field Mourns the Passing of Alum C.J. Hunter

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics and the Penn State track & field program mourns the passing of decorated alum Cottrell (C.J.) Hunter III. He was 52 years old.
 
A 1990 graduate, Hunter remains one of the most decorated throwers in program history. A five-time All-American, he achieved national glory at the 1990 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships when he claimed the second gold medal in Penn State indoor history. He remains the only Nittany Lion to ever claim the shot put national championship. His program records in both the indoor and outdoor shot put stood for over two decades.
 
Hunter was a three-time medalist at the NCAA Championship and claimed eight IC4A Championships during his time in Happy Valley.
