Bothun and Zanon Tabbed CHA Weekly Awardees

WINTHROP, Mass. – Two Penn State women's hockey student-athletes were award CHA Player of the Week honors for their individual performances last week as announced by the league Monday afternoon.

Sophomore goaltender Josie Bothun (Wyoming, Minn.) was named goaltender of the week and sophomore forward Kiara Zanon (Fairport, N.Y.) was selected forward of the week as both had big performances in Penn State's series sweep at New Hampshire Dec. 9-10.

Bothun stopped everything that came her way to earn two shutouts in last week's series. She had 45 total saves across both games to earn her two wins, but those wins were special as they place her atop the Penn State record books.

With last Thursday's win, Bothun earned her 25th career victory, which is now the most in Penn State program history. She reached the program pinnacle in just 39 career starts halfway through her sophomore season.

In Friday's shutout win, Bothun recorded her eighth career shutout, which is also a program best.

Zanon tallied three points for the weekend with one goal and two assists. Her single assist on Thursday was her 50th career point through 39 career games. She is the fastest Nittany Lion to 50 career points in program history.

On Friday, Zanon picked up another assist and an empty-net goal for her 17th multipoint game. She now ranks fifth in program history in multipoint games and is second on the team behind senior Natalie Heising in points with 22 (Heising, 24).

The Nittany Lions will return to action after the holiday break with the Battle of the Burgh in Pittsburgh, Pa. Jan. 1 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Center.
