Five Nittany Lions Set To Compete At US Olympic Trials Wave I

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Five members of the Penn State swimming & diving program will be competing this weekend, June 4-7, in Wave I of the U.S. Olympic Trials at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Prelim races will be live streamed through USA Swimming, while the finals will be broadcast on the Olympic Channel.
 
Senior Maddie Cooke, senior Carly Hart, freshman Morgan Rinn, junior Marie Schobel and freshman Cat Stanford are set to compete in Wave I of the trials.
 
Rinn and Schobel are set to compete on Friday, June 4. Rinn will compete in the 200 Butterfly, while Schobel will race in the 100 Backstroke.
 
As a freshman, Rinn competed in three meets for the Nittany Lions, highlighted by a win in the 200 butterfly against Michigan State (2/6).
 
Coming off of a CSCAA All-American nod in 2020, Schobel qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2021, after posting a personal-best 52.34 in the 100 backstroke at the Big Ten Championships (2/23).
 
Hart, owning the ninth-best 100 Breaststroke pace in program history, is set to compete in the 100 Breaststroke on Saturday, June 5. At the Big Ten Championships, Hart helped Penn State to finish fourth in the 200 Medley Relay.
 
Cooke and Stanford will be competing on Monday, June 7 in the 50 Freestyle. In 2021, Cooke set a personal-best 22.39 at the Big Ten Championships, placing 11th. She sits in a tie for the third-best 50 Freestyle time at Penn State. Cooke enters Wave I as the highest seeded Nittany Lion, currently ranked 14th in the event.
 
Stanford was the top performing freshman for the Nittany Lions in 2021.  Stanford finished 17th at the Big Ten Championships in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, as well as contributing to two top-eight relay swims.
 
Five more Nittany Lions will compete in Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Trials on June 13-20. Michael Daly, Hayden Harlow, Maddie Hart, Jake Houck and Will Roberson will represent Penn State in Wave II.
