Kuhn, Bloyou Selected in Third Round of 2022 MLS SuperDraft

NEW YORK – Penn State men's soccer student-athletes Seth Kuhn and Danny Bloyou were selected in the third round of the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft Tuesday evening. Kuhn went 73rd overall to New York Red Bulls and Bloyou was selected two spots later at 75th to Atlanta United FC.

Kuhn, a native of Wyomissing, Pa., played in 53 career games and started all but one as a Nittany Lion in three seasons after transferring back home from Duke to reunite with Coach Cook ahead of the 2019 season. The central midfielder totaled eight career goals and 17 assists for 33 total points, including a career-best five goals and eight assists in the 2021 season alone. Kuhn was named the 2021 Offensive Player of the Tournament after leading the Nittany Lions to the conference crown with two goals, both the eventual game-winners, and one assist in three games. He was also honored as a  Second Team All-Big Ten recipient in back-to-back seasons (2020, 2021).

Bloyou, originally from Accra, Ghana, played in 33 career games as a Nittany Lion in two seasons after transferring from Old Dominion ahead of the 2020 season. The forward scored 12 career goals and added nine assists for 33 total points. He was Penn State's leading scorer in 2020-21 and earned Third Team All-America status from United Soccer Coaches as well as First Team All-Big Ten honors. His seven helpers in 2021 showed his unselfish play and ranked second in the league behind Kuhn and 53rd nationally.

"It was very exciting getting the call that I was selected," said Bloyou. "I am so happy that Atlanta took a chance on me. I can not wait to get to work and try to prove myself each and every day."

Kuhn and Bloyou become the 17th and 18th Nittany Lions in program history to be drafted by MLS. The pair marks the first time two players have been drafted in the same year since Connor Maloney and Robby Sagel in 2017.

"We are so happy and proud of Danny and Seth!" said head coach Jeff Cook. "Draft day is always special for the players selected, and I am personally so happy that these two have been recognized. Seth and Danny have earned this opportunity with their hard work, commitment and quality. I'm eager to follow their progress as they put their talents on display at the professional level."

Under Cook's tutelage in four years at the helm, four total student-athletes have been drafted in the last three consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2022).
