BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana got off to a hot start that the Penn State men's basketball team was never able to overcome in 74-57 loss inside Assembly Hall on Wednesday night.
Senior Jalen Pickett led the Nittany Lions in scoring for the eighth time this season with 14 points, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Classmate Myles Dread added nine points on three 3-pointers.
Big man John Harrar was just shy of a double-double with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoosiers offense started the game off hot, hitting 5-of-6 from the floor to start, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to take a 15-2 lead into the first media timeout.
- Indiana extended that lead as the Nittany Lions struggled to find their offensive rhythm and the Hoosiers would go to the locker room trailing 46-17.
- Penn State shot 8-of-14 from beyond the arc in the second half and went on a 13-2 run over a four-minute span to claw away at the deficit leading up to the under-4 media timeout.
- Despite outscoring the Hoosiers 40-28 in the second half on 50 percent shooting from the field, the first-half deficit was too much to overcome as Indiana secured the win to split the season series.
GAME NOTES
- Senior Jalen Pickett recorded his 10th consecutive game in double figures. He has scored in double-digits in all but four games this season.
- Graduate student John Harrar finished with 13 points for his ninth game in double figures this season.
- Penn State finished with a 36-30 rebound edge, marking the 11th time this season that the Nittany Lions have outrebounded their opponents.
