Kristin O’Neill Tabbed For Tewaaraton Award Watch List

WASHINGTON, DC. – Penn State women's lacrosse sophomore Kristin O'Neill was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Thursday. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the 2022 Tewaaraton Award.
 
On the brink of the Nittany Lions 2022 season opener, O'Neill has already been selected as a Big Ten Player to Watch.
 
O'Neill had a breakout season as a freshman last spring, starting 12 of 13 games while collecting 29 goals, eight assists, 18 ground balls, six draw controls and 15 caused turnovers.
 
She tied seventh among Division I freshmen averaging 2.23 goals per game and ranked seventh in the Big Ten averaging 1.15 caused turnovers per game. Additionally, O'Neill held second in the conference with a .615 free-position percentage.
 
In the 2021 season opening win vs Rutgers, O'Neill scored four goals and assisted with two goals while adding three draw controls and three caused turnovers. She would later score a season high 5 goals in the Nittany Lions 16-9 win over No. 9 Maryland. In total, O'Neill racked up 9 multi-goal games last spring.
 
The Odenton, Md. capped off a successful collegiate season debut by being awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She was also named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week five times last season.
 
The Tewaaraton Awardrecognizes the top women's lacrosse player in the nation. The field will be narrowed to 25 nominees on April 21, and five finalists will be announced in early May. The Tewaaraton Award recipient will be chosen after the conclusion of the collegiate lacrosse season.
