FIRST TIME ON LONG ISLAND
This will be the first-ever series between the Nittany Lions and the Sharks. The first season of LIU hockey was in 2019-20, and the Sharks have developed into one of the top teams in the NEWHA, leading the conference this season with an 11-1-2 overall record.
This is the third opponent Penn State will face for the first time ever this season, as the Nittany Lions have compiled a 1-2-1 record against Boston College and Brown back in the first half of the 2021-22 slate.
LAST TIME OUT
The Nittany Lions and the Syracuse Orange played a tightly contested series at Pegula Ice Arena Feb. 4-5. Both teams tied 1-1 in the first game of the series and Syracuse prevailed in game two in a 2-1 OT victory.
The Nittany Lions headed up north for the second of a home and home matchup with the Cornell Big Red after a crushing OT loss to conference leader, Syracuse. Penn State won this contest in convincing fashion with a 5-0 shutout victory on Feb. 7.
A switch was flipped as Penn State shot out to an early lead with a goal in the first by Mya Vaslet. The Nittany Lions added four more goals to their victory with two by Kiara Zanon, and one a piece by Alyssa Machado and Rachel Weiss. Josie Bothun stopped all 16 shots earning herself her 7th shutout of the season.
