Penn State Falls to Michigan in Big Ten Contest

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Penn State women's gymnastics team was defeated by Big Ten foe Michigan 197.600-195.875 on Sunday.

"I am really proud of the team tonight," Head Coach Sarah Brown said. "It was a tough arena to compete in and we weren't perfect, but we kept fighting. We stuck a lot of landings, controlled the controllables and continued to hit routines one after another. This team deserves so much success for the work they put in each day, I am so happy to see that work paying off."

The day started on bars, where Penn State continued its season-long streak of 49+ scores with a 49.050. Alissa Bonsall led the team with a 9.875 score on the apparatus.

The team followed with a 48.950 score on vault with Cassidy Rushlow and Lauren Bridgens leading the way with matching 9.825 scores.

Melissa Astarita matched her best score of the season on floor with a 9.875 to lead Penn State to its second 49.0 score of the day.

In the final event of the day, the Nittany Lions produced their top beam score of the season with a 48.875. Bridgens led the group with a 9.850 to close out a strong all-around score of 39.275.

Penn State will be back on the road next week for the Big Five Meet in Toledo, Ohio on Feb. 19.
