University Park, Pa. - The Nittany Lion men's and women's fencing teams will send six athletes to Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend to compete in the Junior Olympics. The Junior Olympics will take place Feb. 18-21 at the Salt Palace Convention Center where juniors, cadets, and junior teams will compete.
Fencing for the men will be:
Epee - Mitchel Bekker (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Nicholas Glaz (Staten Island, N.Y.), and Evan Xu (Sugarland, Texas)
Foil - Donavyn Martinez (Fresno, Calif.)
Saber - Jeffrey Basalyga (Saddle River, N.J.)
Fencing for the women will be:
Foil - Mikaela Yhip (Chico, Calif.)
Following the event in Salt Lake City, the Nittany Lions will next compete at Temple University on Feb. 27 in a dual series with Saint John's University, Princeton University, University of Pensylvania, Johns Hopkins University, and Stevens Institute of Technology.
