Nittany Lions Have Strong Showing at Big Five Meet

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Penn State women's gymnastics team competed at the Elevate the Stage Big Five Meet in Toledo, Ohio on Saturday night.
 
The Nittany Lions hit the 196-point mark for the second time this year, posting their second highest score of the season, 196.125. The team recorded scores above 49.0 on three out of for events.

"Tonight was one of the most complete meets of the season and I am so proud of how this team continues to battle in big arenas," Head Coach Sarah Brown said. "We have room to improve but so much to be proud of." 
 
The evening started on bars, where the Nittany Lions once again reached the 49-mark with a 49.050 score. Penn State has reached the milestone in every meet this season. Nikki Beckwith continued her hot streak on the apparatus with a team-leading 9.875 score.
 
Maddie Johnston followed with the team's best individual performance on beam this season, matching her career-high with a 9.875 score.
 
The team's best score of the night came on floor, where four Nittnay Lions posted scores above a 9.850 en route to a team score of 49.275. Freshman Isabella Salcedo recorded a 9.9 score in the event for the third time this season, the most by any Nittany Lion this year.
 
Fellow freshman Jessica Johanson recorded her first career 9.9 score in the nights final event, leading Penn State to a 49.050 score to close out the meet. The score earned Johanson her third event victory of the season.
 
Penn State will return home to Rec Hall next week for a dual meet matchup with Big Ten foe Maryland.
