University Park, Pa. - Penn State fencing concluded action at the Junior Olympics taking place from Feb. 18-21 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Penn State sent six athletes to compete in the event.
In the men's epee competition, Nicholas Glaz (Staten Island, N.Y.) ended the competition in 62nd place with a record of 2-1. Evan Xu (Sugarland, Texas) finished in 114th with a 1-1 record. Mitchel Bekker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tied for 196th going 0-1.
Donavyn Martinez (Fresno, Calif.) finished 109th in men's foil going 1-1.
Jeffrey Basalyga (Saddle River, N.J.) finished in 38th place with a 1-1 record in men's saber.
For the women's foil competition, Mikaela Yhip (Chico, Calif.) ended the competition in 70th place with a 0-1 record.
Penn State fencing will compete again Feb. 27 in Philadelphia, Pa. against Temple University, St. John's University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, and Stevens Institute of Technology.
