Men’s Swimming and Diving to Compete at Big Ten Championships in Indiana

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Men's Swimming and Diving team is set to compete at the 2022 Big Ten Championships hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. The meet will take place at Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center from Wednesday, February 23 through Saturday, February 26.
 
COVERAGE
The four-day meet will begin on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. CT with relay finals and continue Thursday through Saturday as preliminaries start at 11 a.m. ET and finals at 6:30 p.m. ET. The championship will be streamed via BTN Plus. All live stats will be available on Meet Mobile and BTN Live: DAY 1
 
THE MEET
The Nittany Lions will face some of the best teams in the country at this event. The CSCAA lists five conference teams in their Top 25 rankings. No. 4 Indiana leads the Big Ten followed by No. 9 Ohio State, No. 13 Michigan, No. 24 Wisconsin and No. 25 Northwestern. Purdue is receiving votes.
 
THIS SEASON
Coming into this meet, The Nittany Lions are 4-4 overall. They are coming off a big win against Villanova in their senior meet back on Friday, January 28. Penn State has faced eight opponents this season and swam at the North Carolina State Invitational. The men's team earned victories against Navy (181-119), West Virginia (161-132), Bloomsburg (175-55), and Villanova (215-81).
 
THE NITTANY LIONS
The top relays this season were led by senior Will Roberson, sophomore Jake Houck, freshman Victor Baganha, junior Daniel Raisanen, junior Zane Sutton and senior Michael Daly. In the 200 freestyle, Roberson, Houck, Baganha and Sutton placed first with a time of 1:21.46. In the 400 freestyle, Baganha, Roberson, Houck and Daly earned first with a time of 2:58.87.
 
In the 200 medley, Roberson, Raisanen, Baganha and Houck finished first with a top time of 1:27.64. In the 400 medley, Daly, Raisanen, Baganha and Roberson earned first with a time of 3:16.72. 
 
Baganha and Daly are Penn State's quickest freestylers. In the meet against Navy, Baganha ranked first  with a time of 19.99 in the 50 freestyle and in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.50. Daly earned first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.82 at the same meet and in the meet against West Virginia, he placed first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:34.22. 
 
Daly leads the Nittany Lions in the backstroke events, holding this season's fastest times in the 100 (49.14) and 200 (1:45.94).
 
In the 100 and 200 breaststroke PSU is led by senior Raisanaen. Raisanen posted a 54.89 in the 100 during the meet against Navy and swam for a 2:01.19 in the 200 in the same meet. 
 
The Nittany Lion's fastest flyers are Baganha and Daly. This season, Baganha swam the 100 in 47.36 while Daly completed the 200 in 1:48.62.
 
Daly swam the 200 IM in 1:48.80 against Navy. 
 
On the boards, Penn State is led by junior Kevin Sullivan and senior Jonah Cey. Sullivan scored a 302.70 in the 1 meter dive at the Big Ten Championships last year. Cey earned a score of 266.20 the same day in the platform dive. 
 
B1G TEN CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY 
 
Swimming:
At the last Big Ten Championships, the Nittany Lions swam for three new school records, two podium finishes, and 23 additional individual top-24 finishes, including 14 top-16 times. Daly won the 400 IM in 3:41.09, clinching gold with a career best, NCAA B-cut, and school record time.

As a team, the Nittany Lions finished the meet in seventh place with 619.5 points.
 
Diving:
The Nittany Lion men hold one Big Ten Championship victory, claiming the title during the 1998-99 season. They've also tallied 19 individual wins at Big Tens since their debut in 1992. At last year's Big Ten Championships, The Nittany Lions finished with two 13th place finishes and one 15th place finish.
