Women’s Lacrosse travels to Duquesne for mid-week game

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's lacrosse team is set to take on Duquesne on Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Pa. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Rooney Field.

The Nittany Lions are 0-1 after falling in their season opener at Drexel, while Duquesne is 2-1, most recently defeating Kent State on the road.

SERIES HISTORY
• Penn State leads 9-0 in the all-time series.
• The teams first played in 2012 with PSU winning 16-5.
• Penn State won 20-6 in their most recent meeting in 2020. Mary Muldoon scored two goals, while Meghan Murray and Kara Nealon chipped in one each. Brooke Barger and Regan Nealon both had assists.
• The Nittany Lions have outscored the Dukes 153-55.
• PSU's largest margin of victory was a 16-0 shutout at Duquesne on Feb. 24, 2015.

SCOUTING THE DUKES
• Duquesne is 2-1 with an 8-9 season opening overtime loss at Pitt but has two straight wins against Youngstown State, 19-15 and Kent State, 15-4.
• Two of the Duke's three leading scorers are freshmen.
• Freshman Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw leads the team with 9 goals and 3 assists. Freshman Sam King has 8 goals tied with senior Tina St. Clair.
• Redshirt sophomore goalie Mady Piersielak is 2-0 with 11 saves.
• Head coach Corinne Desrosiers is in her fourth season with the Dukes.
 
Additional Notes
• Senior Mary Muldoon led the Lions at Drexel, making three goals on three shots; one with a woman-down. It was the third hat-trick of her career.
• Both Lion goalies, freshman Ashley Bowan and sophomore Cayden Jarvis had their collegiate debuts at Drexel.
• PSU is on the road for their first four games before hosting James Madison on March 9.
• Senior Mary Muldoon and junior Rachel Spilker were elected captains for the 2022 season.
• Grad transfer Taylor Regan and sophomores Sammy Dupcak and Kristin O'Neill were named Big Ten Players to Watch.
• 2021's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Kristin O'Neill, was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
• Head Coach Missy Doherty is in her 12th season leading the Nittany Lions. 
• Doherty's next win will mark her 200th career victory. She holds a 199-123 career record.
