Reedy Signs MLS NEXT Pro Contract with Real Monarchs

Opens in a new window Real Salt Lake Release

HERRIMAN, Utah – Former Penn State men's soccer midfielder Pierre Reedy signed an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract with Real Monarchs Friday, pending league approval, ahead of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season.

After going undrafted in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, Reedy was invited to Real Salt Lake's preseason camp as a trialist. There he impressed the club over the two-month preseason, even starting a preseason match against Minnesota United and playing substitute minutes in two additional matches, to earn a contract.

"Pierre came into the preseason with Real Salt Lake and continually impressed our technical staff. His approach to his craft, his character there within and desire to succeed is a model for players of all ages within our organization. We look forward to watching his continued development with the Monarchs," said Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manger Tony Beltran in the club's official press release.

In six seasons with the Nittany Lions, Reedy played in 69 career games with 64 starts. He totaled nine goals and 14 assists for 32 total points. On the field, Reedy helped Penn State to the elusive Big Ten "double" in 2021 for the first time in program history. He earned two All-Big Ten honors and was a Third Team All-American in 2020-21, in addition to four other All-America honors throughout his career.

"Pierre has earned this opportunity through his relentless hard work and dedication – we could not be happier for him," said head coach Jeff Cook. "I'm confident that he will make the most of this opportunity with Real Salt Lake and the Monarchs. This is a great match between an outstanding club and a player with a very bright future. I am so excited to follow his career as a professional soccer player!"

The Kutztown, Pa., native was a three-time team captain for Penn State and a well-respected leader. He earned two degrees while at Penn State (Bachelors, Security and Risk Analysis; Masters in Corporate Finance). Reedy was named Academic All-Big Ten five times and twice was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. He was also the Big Ten Medal of Honor Recipient in 2021.

Real Monarchs are set to compete in MLS NEXT Pro for the 2022 season, the schedule for which will be released at a later date.
