University Park, Pa. - The Penn State men's and women's fencing team competed at the Temple Invitational Sunday, Feb. 27 against St. John's University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, and Stevens Institute of Technology.
The men's team won against Stevens 18-9, Penn 16-11, St. John's 17-10, and Johns Hopkins 20-7.The men lost against Princeton 16-11.
Against Stevens, the men won five saber, eight foil, and six epee bouts. In competition with Penn, PSU won six saber, five foil, and five epee bouts. Against St. John's, the men won five saber, 8 foil, and 4 epee bouts. Finally, Penn State won five saber, six foil, and 9 epee bouts against Johns Hopkins.
The women's team won against Temple 15-12, Penn 14-13, St. John's 18-9, and Johns Hopkins 17-10. The women's team lost against Princeton 15-12.
Against Temple, the women won five saber, six foil, and four epee bouts. In a close match with Penn, the Nittany Lions won four saber, four foil, and six epee bouts. Against St. John's, PSU won six saber, seven foil, and five epee bouts. In round five against Johns Hopkins, Penn State won eight saber, four foil, and five epee bouts.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action on March 12 for the 2022 NCAA Mid-Atlantic South Regionals.
