Big Ten Match Play Results

PALM COAST, Fla. – The Penn State men's golf team started the spring season Friday afternoon at Big Ten Match Play, falling 3.5-1.5 to Indiana at Hammock Beach Resort's Ocean Course.

The fifth-seeded Nittany Lions and fourth-seeded Hoosiers played to three ties and Indiana won a pair of matches as the Hoosiers grabbed the 3.5-1.5 win.

Juniors Patrick Sheehan and Jimmy Meyers, along with sophomore James Allen, all tied their matches with the Hoosiers. Meyers was two down through nine holes before rallying for the tie. Allen was one down going into the final hole before picking up a stroke on the final hole to secure the tie. Sheehan sat at four up through the first nine, but Indiana's Drew Salyers slowly chipped away in the final nine holes to force the tie.

Graduate student Lou Olsakovsky and freshman Morgan Lofland battled hard, but dropped their matches to the Hoosiers 3&1 and 4&2, respectively.

Penn State will resume action at Big Ten Match Play Saturday, with live scoring available at GolfStat.
