Nittany Lions Defeated By Iowa in Road Meet

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Penn State women's gymnastics team fell to Big Ten foe Iowa 196.125-195.325 in Iowa City on Friday.

"Huge thank you to Iowa for hosting a great meet and recognizing our senior atheltes," Head Coach Sarah Brown said. "The energy in the arena was awesome! I thought we started really strong, we rallied when things got stuff and we made a lot of improvements from previous weeks. Unfortunately, we came up short in teh end and we have more work to do on beam."
 
The day started on bars, where the Nittany Lions posted their best event score of the day with a 49.200. Freshman Nikki Beckwith earned her first event victory with a career high 9.900 score.
 
Fellow freshman Jessica Johanson led the Nittany Lions on vault with a personal best 9.850 as Penn State recorded a 48.950 on the apparatus.
 
Lauren Bridgens posted her second 39+ all-around score of the season with a 39.300 on the day.

"We have two more road meets to work out the kinks," Brown said. "We are really looking forward to continuing to improve as we move into the second half of our season." 
 
Penn State will be back on the road next weekend when the team takes on defending national champion Michigan in Ann Arbor. The meet will be broadcasted live on ESPN2.
