Allessie Named to Team U-21 US National Team and Barraco Named to U-21 Development Team

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey players have been named to Team USA's U-21 squads. Junior Mackenzie Allessie (Mount Joy, Pa.) has been named to the U-21 U.S. Women's National Team and junior Brie Barraco (Allentown, Pa.) has been named to the U-21 U.S. Development Team.
 
The teams were announced by the U.S. Women's National Team High Performance Staff and U-21 USWNT head coach Tracey Paul after a four-day selection camp. A total of 22 athletes were selected to the U-21 USWNT and eight to the Development Team.
 
Allessie ended the 2021 NCAA season with 30 points off nine goals and 12 assists and has 40 goals and 22 assists for 102 career points. She was a first team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten selection as well.  Barraco ended her third season in the cage for Penn State with a 2.35 goals against average and a .738 save percentage.  She earned second team NFHCA All-Region honors.
 
The 22 athletes selected to the 2022 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team and the eight athletes selected to the 2022 U.S. Women's National Development Team were named following their performances at the Selection Camp at Queens University of Charlotte. This pool consisted of athletes selected from the 2021 Young Women's National Championship along with a small group of players who were identified by U.S. Women's National Team High Performance Staff during the 2021 collegiate season.

The Nittany Lions ended the season with a 14-6 overall record, placed second in the Big Ten regular season with a 6-2 mark, advanced to the 2021Big Ten Tournament semifinals and earned a spot in the 2021 NCAA Championship Tournament.
