Penn State Visits Towson on Tuesday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Following two wins during their home opening week, the Nittany Lions take a road trip to Towson on Tuesday, March 15. 
                                                                                          
First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Tiger Field. 

The Nittany Lions are 4-2 while the Tigers are 2-3 on the season.

SERIES HISTORY
• Penn State leads 10-1 in the all-time series and has won the last two matchups.
• The teams first played at University Park in 1978 with PSU winning 14-5.
• Penn State won 12-9 in their most recent meeting in 2020 for the Nittany Lions' season opener. Meghan Murray scored a goal, and Kate Love picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover. 
• The Nittany Lions have outscored the Tigers 156-64.
• PSU's largest margin of victory was a 22-1 home win on April 1, 1982.
• In PSU's lone loss to TU, the Lions fell by a single point, 14-13 on the road on Feb. 10, 2018.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• TU is on a two-game streak following wins vs. Saint Joseph's and UMBC.
• The Tigers and Lions have had two mutual opponents this season, both teams have fallen to Loyola but won against Saint Joseph's.
• Kerri Thornton and Halley Koras both earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) weekly honors after leading the Tigers in their win over UMBC, 19-12.
• Thornton is the Tigers' leading scorer having racked up 17 points on 14 goals and three assists.
 
PSU STATISTICAL RANKINGS
• PSU is tied for fifth in the nation in clearing percentage (.927).
• PSU is tied eighth in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (11.2).
• PSU is ranked 18th in Division 1 draw control percentage (.565) and 25th in draw controls per game (15.6).
• Junior Kara Nealon is tied seventh in the nation by averaging 2.6 assists per contest.

• PSU took both games during their home opening week, rolling over No. 21 James Madison 14-10 on Wednesday and Saint Joseph's 17-8 on Saturday.
• Penn State went on a 14-goal run vs. SJU.
• Versus SJU, three Nittany Lions scored a hat trick in senior Mary Muldoon, sophomore Kristin O'Neill and graduate student Taylor Regan.
• Also against SJU, Penn State was a perfect 17-for-17 on clears and committed a season-low four turnovers.
• Kristin O'Neill leads the Lions with 17 goals. She has five multi-goal games this year.
• Junior Kara Nealon has a team best 15 assists this season.
• Sophomore Kayla Abernathy has won a team best 30 draw controls.
• Senior Mary Muldoon and junior Rachel Spilker were elected captains for the 2022 season.

• Head Coach Missy Doherty is in her 12th season leading the Nittany Lions.

• Doherty started her collegiate head coaching career at Towson, leading the Tigers for seven seasons (2004-2010).
