Sheehan Leads the Way on Shortened Day One of General Hackler

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Patrick Sheehan currently sits tied for third place to pace the Penn State men's golf team after the first day of the General Hackler Championship. Competition started late due to morning frost at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, and the second round was not completed due to darkness. Second-round competition will resume Monday, as well as the third and final round.
 
Penn State sat tied for 11th in the 15-team field when Sunday competition was called due to darkness. The Nittany Lions shot a 12-over, 300, as a team in the first round, sitting in a four-way tie for 10th after the opening 18. The Nittany Lions are 1-over through the first part of the second round, which will be completed tomorrow.
 
Sheehan leads the Nittany Lions in a tie for third place through the first day of competition. The junior shot a 3-under, 69, in the first round and is currently at 2-under through the first nine holes of the second round.
 
Graduate student Lou Olsakovksy is tied for 10th after shooting an even 72 in the first round and currently sitting at 2-under through the first nine holes of the second round.
 
Freshman Jake Griffin shot a 7-over, 79, in the first round, while freshman Morgan Lofland and junior Jimmy Meyers both shot 8-over, 80, in the opening round.
 
Action continues at the General Hackler Championship Monday with the conclusion of the second and third rounds. Live scoring is available on GolfStat.
