Ten Nittany Lions Have Sights Set on NCAA Championships

University Park, Pa. - The Nittany Lions will have ten Penn State representatives at the NCAA championships held March 24-27 at the Castellan Family Fencing Facility in South Bend, Ind. at the University of Notre Dame.
 
"I'm very excited to travel to South Bend with my teammates and the coaching staff,"  Junior Axelle Wasiak says. "We have been working very hard all season, especially these last few weeks, and I'm looking forward to see what we can achieve."
 
Fencing for the men will be:
 
Epee- Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.)
Foil - Sebastiano Bicego (Vicenza, Italy) and Arwen Borowiak (Tauberbischofsheim, Germany)
Saber -  Kamar Skeete (Duluth, Ga.) and Clement Perrier (Allauch, France)
 
Fencing for the women will be:
 
Epee - Kateryna Chorniy (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Axelle Wasiak (Vlaams-Brabant, Belgium)
Foil - Samantha Catantan (Quezon City, Philippines)
Saber - Pauline Conscience (Paris, France) and Ola Strzalkowski (Littleton, Colo.)
 
"Myself and my teammates are all super excited for the NCAA championships this weekend," Senior Ryan Griffiths said. "Being able to represent Penn State at the highest level of collegiate sports is an honor and I look forward to representing myself, the school, and my teammates. We are a very experienced group, and we believe the fencers we did qualify are among the best in the country and we look forward to proving that this weekend."
 
Penn State has won 13 combined NCAA Championships in its storied history and three women's titles before the championship became a combined event. The Nittany Lions finished second last year as Penn State hosted the NCAA Championships in the Bryce Jordan Center. Griffiths claimed the NCAA individual title in the epee to lead Penn State. Penn State had 10 All-Americans a year ago.
