UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sophomore Matt Cormier put together a solid individual performance, but No. 7 Penn State dropped its Big Ten men's gymnastics meet to No. 5 Ohio State 397.200-393.900 on Saturday at Rec Hall.
Penn State dropped to 10-3 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten, while Ohio State improved to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Cormier was the runner-up on three events and took third on another. He posted two scores that rank as the best on the team this season, doing so while finishing second with a score of 14.2 on floor and second with a score of 14.6 on vault. His vault score matched a personal best.
Cormier also matched his personal-best score of 13.6 on rings while finishing as the runner-up. He tied for third on parallel bars with a season-best score of 13.05.
Chase Clingman had the lone event win for Penn State, winning pommel horse with a personal-best score of 13.65. The junior won the event for the third time this season. He has either set or matched a personal-best score in three consecutive meets, scoring 13.6 in back-to-back meets against Illinois and Nebraska before winning the event against Ohio State.
Michael Jaroh was the runner-up on parallel bars and was followed by Nick Mock and Cormier, who tied for third. Jaroh added a third-place finish on high bar.
Penn State hosts Springfield on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. Kaleb Booth, Eric Lung, Mock, Andres Perez Gines, and Brady Yamamoto will be honored for Senior Day.
