Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State Golf Tournament Set for June 3

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The 25th-annual Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State Golf Tournament, hosted by Nittany Lion basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry, will be held Friday, June 3, at the Penn State Golf Courses. Through this golf tournament, as well as other annual events and partnerships, Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State raises funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society to support cancer research and mission programs in our local community.

The Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament, presented by local sponsor PSECU, has become one of the premier golf events in Pennsylvania, welcoming over 300 golfers, sponsors and regional sports luminaries to the Penn State Golf Courses. The deadline to register a team for the 2022 Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament is Friday, May 20.

The five-player, 18-hole scramble tournament is just one of the activities held Thursday-Friday, June 2-3. On June 2, the night before the golf tournament, CVC presents a Sponsors/Captain Reception at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, featuring heavy hors d'oeuvres, open beverage service, contests and live music. A fun-filled awards dinner follows the golf tournament Friday night at Medlar Field. An online auction, to be launched during the weeks leading up to the tournament, will feature a number of exclusive items and experiences with all proceeds benefiting CVC-Penn State.

This 25th-anniversary tournament on Friday, June 3, will feature the Penn State men's basketball coaching staff and other current and former Penn State head coaches, athletes, department leaders and special guests who will join golfers on the course and at the other events.

The Penn State chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer was established in 1995 by former Nittany Lion head coach Bruce Parkhill who grew up and attended high school in State College. Penn State basketball coaches Parkhill, Jerry Dunn, Ed DeChellis, Patrick Chambers, and now Micah Shrewsberry, have since carried on the mission. Since the organization's launch, the CVC-Penn State chapter has raised more than $3.5 million net to date and is among nation's most successful fundraising chapters.

The golf tournament hosted by CVC-Penn State was initiated by Dunn during his tenure in University Park with the first tournament held in 1997. It has raised over $2 million to date, with Parkhill and Dunn competing in it nearly every year.

Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State hosts activities throughout the year with dates and ticket information for 2022 events available here.
