MATCH NOTES & STATS

  • The Nittany Lions bumped back up to No. 2 in both the AVCA coaches poll and the Off the Block media poll this week amidst its 18-match win streak, which ties its longest streak since 2008. Penn State's highest win streak in a single season is 24 in a row in 1997.
  • Penn State aims to end the EIVA regular season with an unbeaten record for the first time since 2015 when the Nittany Lions were 12-0 in the league. Penn State was 7-0 in conference in 2020 before the season was canceled due to COVID-19.
  • Penn State's 15 wins without a loss are the most the Nittany Lions have had in league play ever. The previous high was 14 wins achieved four times, last in 2012.
  • The Nittany Lions will host the 2022 EIVA Tournament April 20-23 at Rec Hall as the conference's top seed. The other five teams in the tournament will be George Mason, Harvard, NJIT, Princeton and Saint Francis with all five of their seedings to be determined after this weekend. Penn State will play the winner of the 4-5 first-round match Thursday evening, April 21, at 7 p.m.
  • PSU's record over the last two seasons is now a combined 44-7. The 44 wins is the most in the nation over that span and the Nittany Lions' winning percentage of .841 is also the best in the nation.
  • The Nittany Lions' all-time record against the Golden Eagles is 13-0. The teams last played March 4, 2022 in Rec Hall. Penn State is 6-0 when playing in Charleston, W. Va. The Nittany Lions came out with the 3-0 victory thanks to a combined 18 kills and 10 blocks from Brett Wildman and Toby Ezeonu.
  • Ezeonu's .548 hitting percentage this season ranks first in the nation among players with at least 3.25 attacks per set. That mark is also tied for third best in program history with Max Holt's 2008 season and trailing only Holt's 2009 mark of .562 and Keith Kowal's program record of .574 set in 2004.
  • Wildman has a team-high 17 matches with 10+ kills in 2022 including seven matches with double-digit put downs and at least a .500 hitting percentage. He enters the weekend with 953 career kills and a .347 attack percentage for the season.
  • Cole Bogner has paced Penn State's offense to a .342 hitting percentage this season, good for fourth-best in the country and best in the EIVA. Penn State is unbeaten when hitting .300 or better (19-0). Bogner is 9th on Penn State's all-time assist list with 2,889.
