PSU falls at No. 9 Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Freshman goalie Ashley Bowan achieved a season-high 13 saves as the Penn State women's lacrosse team fell 13-6 at No. 9 Maryland on Thursday night.

Matching UMD's keeper for 13 saves, Bowan bested her previous high of ten saves, which she earned twice this season in games at Towson and No. 11 Princeton.

Bowan and the Penn State (5-6, 0-3) defense held UMD (11-1, 3-0) to their second lowest goal total of the season. No. 15 JMU delivered the Terps their lone loss thus far in a 13-8 decision on March 26.

The Terps managed to shut out PSU's leading scorer, Kristin O'Neill, who still played an active role on the field, grabbing three ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover.

Taylor Regan and Brooke Hoss led the Lions offensively with two goals apiece. Both of Regan's goals came in the first quarter. Regan, a transfer from Virginia, now has 93 career points.

Hoss' goals were both off free-position opportunities.

Gretchen Gilmore and Meghan Murray made up the other PSU scores. Murray found the back of the net a woman-down in the second quarter.

Sammy Dupcak fielded four ground balls and won four draw controls of PSU's eight total.

UMD finished the contest 19 for 19 on clear attempts, while PSU went 18 for 22. UMD also won the draw control battle 15 to eight.

Next, the Nittany Lions return home to host in-state foe, Pitt, at 4 p.m., April 12 at Panzer Stadium.
