BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Penn State women's tennis (9-9, 3-3 B1G) took down Big Ten conference opponent Indiana (9-10, 2-4 B1G) in an exciting 5-1 match on Friday afternoon in Bloomington.
DOUBLES
The Nittany Lions secured the doubles point over the Hoosiers with wins on courts No. 2 and 3.
Gabby O'Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen collected a 6-1 win over Lexi Kubas and Rose Hu on court No. 3. The doubles point was clinched by partners Yvonne Zuffova and Olivia Ryan, who defeated Alexandra Staiculescu and Mila Mejic on court two, 6-4.
The match on court No. 1 between pairings Sofiya Chekhlystova & Karly Friedland and Laura Masic and Lara Schneider was left unfinished, 4-4.
SINGLES
The Nittany Lions swept singles play on courts No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 to clinch the match over the Hoosiers.
Alexandra Nielsen defeated Mila Mejic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, on court No. 5. On court No. 2, Yvonne Zuffova downed Laura Masic 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 to bring the score to 3-1 in favor of Penn State. The match was clinched by Gabby O'Gorman 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 over Alexandra Staiculescu in the No. 3 singles bout. Sofiya Chekhlystova earned the final point for Nittany Lions with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lara Schneider.
The No. 6 singles bout was left unfinished with a score, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 in a close battle between Alina Lebedeva and Sayda Hernandez, with Lebedeva leading in the third set.
