Gearing Named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track and field senior Rachel Gearing was named the Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week after clocking the fastest 800 meter time in the Big Ten this past weekend at the Jim Thorpe Invitational, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

The Cleveland, Ga. native finished with a new personal-best time of 2:03.08, which is the seventh-fastest time in the NCAA this season. The senior's time also ranks her second all-time in program history, as she only trails Danae Rivers' program record of 2:02.53 set in 2017.

Gearing's weekly conference honor marks her first on the season, and the fourth claimed by a Nittany Lion, joining Victoria Tachinski (Twice) and Tyler Merkley.

The Nittany Lions are set to travel out to Minneapolis this week to compete in the Big Ten Championship meet from Friday to Sunday.
