Five Collect Honorable Mention All-America Nods as Penn State Concludes Season at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – The Penn State track and field team concluded its 2022 outdoor season with five student-athletes collecting honorable mention All-American honors Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Oregon.

Big Ten Champion Yasmin Brooks garnered honorable mention All-American honors when she finished 19th in the 100 meter hurdles semifinals. The 2022 outdoor season saw Brooks rise up to third all-time in program history in the event.

Also finishing 19th, Rachel Gearing received honorable mention All-American status in the 800 meter to close out a season which saw her rise all the way up to second all-time in program history in the 800 meter.

Victoria Tachinski capped off her illustrious Nittany Lion career with an honorable mention All-American accolade of her own in the 800 meters after placing 22nd in the prelims. She finishes her career in the Blue & White with the fourth-fastest outdoor 800m time and third-fastest indoor 800m time in program history.  She also finishes as a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier and two-time All-American honoree after earning second-team All-American plaudits during the 2022 indoor season.

Madison Smith finished her career with her fourth-best performance in the javelin throw. Finishing 17th overall, she narrowly missed making the second team after she launched her best throw on the day 51.18m (167-11). She ends her career with the fifth-best mark in program history in the javelin at a 53.03m (174-0).

The fifth honorable mention All-American honor went to Mallory Kauffman, who ended her outdoor season with her second All-America nod of the 2021-22 school year, adding on to her second-team honors received during the indoor season. She finished 19th overall, with her best throw on the day traveling 16.48m (54-1). Kauffman finished the season owning the second-best marks in program history in both shot put and discus.
