Women's Hockey Adds Correia and MacKay to 2022-23 Roster

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's hockey program is excited to welcome fifth-year transfer student-athletes Courtney Correia and Eleri MacKay to Hockey Valley as members of its 2022-23 roster, head coach Jeff Kampersal announced Tuesday.

A pair of experienced forwards, Correia (Whitby, Ontario) joins Penn State after four seasons at Boston University in Hockey East and MacKay (Brookfield, Wisc.) had a four-year career with Colgate in the ECAC.

"We are happy Courtney and Eleri will be joining our team this season," said Kampersal. "They are both humble women and experienced players that played for successful programs. We are looking forward to them complementing our already talented returning and first-year players. They are also driven students. I'm glad they choose Penn State to pursue a graduate degree in our elite Smeal College of Business."

Correia has been steady scoring forward from the first season she stepped on the ice for BU and throughout her entire collegiate career. In 116 games, Correia netted 32 goals with 33 assists for 65 total points.

As a senior in 2021-22, the forward had her most productive scoring season yet with a team-leading 14 goals and 25 points and received team MVP honors. She graduated from BU in Spring 2022 with her degree in business administration and management.

MacKay has also proved to be a productive player for the Colgate Raiders and played a pivotal role on a pair of NCAA Tournament teams with the Raiders in 2021 and 2022. In 138 games, she has 29 goals, 29 assists and 58 points, including a seven-goal, 16-point season as a senior in 2021-22.

Her 2018-19 freshman season saw her highest point totals as MacKay notched career bests in goals (11) and points (19). She graduated with her degree in economics from Colgate in Spring 2022.

The pair of talented transfers joins a Penn State program fresh off a program-record 18-win season in 2021-22 and 34 wins over the past two seasons. The 2022-23 roster features eight student-athletes that have won All-CHA laurels in their careers, including recently named captains Rene Gangarosa, Mallory Uihlein and Kiara Zanon.
