Penn State Field Hockey Announces 2022 Schedule
Head coach Char Morett-Curtiss' squad set for seven home games this season
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; July 11, 2022 – The Penn State University field hockey team, under the direction of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss, has announced its schedule for the 2022 season. The Nittany Lions will play seven games at home and ten games on the road, with the Big Ten Championship tournament set for early November at Ohio State.
Penn State opens the season on Friday, Aug. 26, when it hosts Virginia at 5 p.m. at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. The Complex will host a game between Louisville and Bucknell at 7:30 p.m. that same evening. Two days later, Penn State hosts Louisville on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 12 p.m.
The Nittany Lions then hit the road for nearly a month, embarking on a three weekend, five game streak of road games. Penn State heads to Albany on Saturday, Sept. 3, for a 1 p.m. game. The next weekend, the Nittany Lions visit St. Joseph's at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. Two days later, Penn State takes on Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. in Newark, Del.
Penn State closes out its early season road swing in Big Ten country, opening up Big Ten play at Michigan on Friday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m. The Nittany Lions then face non-conference foe Cornell in Ann Arbor, battling the Big Red on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m. on Michigan's field.
The Nittany Lions return home for two conference games the next week. Penn State hosts Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m. and Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 12 p.m. Morett-Curtiss' squad visits Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. and takes on Indiana on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 12 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind.
Penn State hosts Iowa on Friday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Field Hockey Complex. Two days later, the Nittany Lions host Lafayette at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. Prior to the Nittany Lions' non-conference game, Iowa will battle James Madison at 11 a.m. at the Complex. Penn State heads to Bucknell on Friday, Oct. 14, for a 6 p.m. game and then heads west to Kent State for a non-conference game on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 12 p.m.
The Nittany Lions close out their home slate on Friday, Oct. 21, hosting Maryland at 6 p.m. in a Big Ten contest. Penn State then closes out the regular season with a Big Ten road game at Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m.
The 2022 Big Ten Tournament will take place on Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 3-6, at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The 2022 NCAA Championship tournament begins the next weekend on campus sites, Nov. 11-13. The 2022 NCAA Championship semifinals and finals will take place on Nov. 18-20 at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn.
"We are very excited about the strength of this year's schedule," said Morett-Curtiss. "We open up the season by bringing both Virginia and Louisville, two ACC powers, into town in what will be a showcase of high-level field hockey for our fans. We've done a good job of setting up a schedule against perennial NCAA powers that will prepare us for the always tough Big Ten schedule. Given the high quality of Big Ten field hockey, we expect every conference game to be extremely competitive. We take pride in the strength of our conference and every game is an opportunity to showcase Big Ten field hockey to our fans."
Penn State has two preseason scrimmages as well. The Lions welcome Syracuse on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. and visit Villanova on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m.
