Penn State Selected to Host PIAA Spring Sport Championships Festival

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State has been awarded bids to host a PIAA Spring Sport Championships Festival, which includes boys' volleyball, boys' and girls' lacrosse, baseball and softball from 2023-26, as announced by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
 
"We are thrilled to be the home of the PIAA Spring Sport Championships Festival for the next four years," said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Pat Kraft. "Every year, we are honored to host various PIAA Championships allowing high school student-athletes the experience of competing at high-level collegiate facilities. We want to thank the Happy Valley Sports and Entertainment Alliance for their support of our bid to bring these events to our community."
 
The spring festivals will take place in June each of the next four years on Penn State's University Park campus. The 2023 spring championships festival will be held Thursday, June 15-Saturday, June 17. The 2024 spring championships festival will be held Thursday, June 13-Saturday, June 15. The 2025 spring championships festival will be held Thursday, June 12-Saturday, June 14. The 2025 spring championships festival will be held Thursday, June 11-Saturday, June 13.
 
The boys' volleyball championships will take place in Rec Hall, the lacrosse championships will be at Panzer Stadium, baseball will be at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and softball will take place at Nittany Lion Softball Park and Beard Field.
 
Penn State has long served as a host for various PIAA championship events, including holding the baseball and softball championships for the last 11 years and boys' volleyball each year the championships have been held since 2005, as well as twice in the 80's and twice in the 90's.
 
"The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau welcomed the collaboration with Penn State to secure a multi-year commitment to bring these championships – including the lacrosse championships for the first time – to Happy Valley," said HVAB President and CEO Fritz Smith. "Creating a memorable PIAA Spring Sport Championship Festival while showcasing some of the state's finest high school student athletes will be one of the first orders of business of the Happy Valley Sports & Entertainment Alliance, itself a collaborative effort with the university and other partners. We look forward to this exciting opportunity."
 
PIAA is a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation organized on a membership basis. All of its members are schools. They include almost all of the public and many of the private junior high/middle schools and senior high schools in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Generally stated, the purpose and function of PIAA is to develop and enforce rules, which are authorized or adopted by the member schools, regulating interscholastic athletic competition.
