UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's basketball team will open the 2022 Shriners Children's Hospital Charleston Classic against Furman on Thursday, Nov. 17, as ESPN Events announced the matchups and bracket for the three-game tournament at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. Tuesday afternoon.
The bracket-format tournament features 12 games over three days with teams competing once per day, regardless of results. The two unbeaten teams will face off in a championship game at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20. All 12 games of the Charleston Classic will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
Penn State begins action in the tournament opener at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17 against Furman on ESPNU. The Nittany Lions then play either Virginia Tech or Old Dominion on Friday, Nov. 18 at either noon or 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2 or ESPNU. Penn State then faces a team on the other side of the bracket in the College of Charleston, Colorado State, Davidson or South Carolina, on Sunday, Nov. 20. The full bracket is available HERE.
Furman is coming off a 2021-22 season that saw the Paladins go 21-12. Furman advanced to the Southern Conference Tournament championship game, dropping a 64-63 overtime contest to SoCon champion Chattanooga. The Nittany Lions and Paladins are set to meet for the second time in program history, with the first meeting being a 70-49 Penn State win inside the Bryce Jordan Center on Nov. 28, 2010.
Penn State's Friday matchup features either Old Dominion or Virginia Tech. Old Dominion went 13-19 last season and the Nittany Lions are 2-0 all-time against the Monarchs, with both meetings coming in 1992. Virginia Tech won the 2022 ACC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament a season ago, finishing the 2021-22 campaign at 23-13. The Nittany Lions and Hokies have met 10 times in program history, with Penn State winning each of the last three matchups in 2020, 2018 and 2014.
Penn State's Sunday opponent will come from the other side of the eight-team bracket that features a pair of 2022 NCAA Tournament participants in Colorado State (25-6 in 2021-22) and Davidson (27-7 in 2021-22), as well as College of Charleston (17-15 in 2021-22) and South Carolina (19-13 in 2021-22).

All-tournament tickets for the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic are on sale now. Fans can purchase discounted early bird Premium Lower Chairback seats for $170 (regularly $185) or Lower Bleacher/Upper Level for $120 (regularly $135) through August 20. All seating for the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic is general admission separated into those two tiers.
Single-session tickets will go on sale in October, pending availability. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as Premium Lower Sideline tickets have sold out before October the past three years.
