CALI, Columbia – Penn State rising sophomores Collin Burkhart and James Onwuka are set to compete in the IAAF World Athletics U20 Championships held in Cali, Colombia Aug. 1-6.

Burkhart took second place in the hammer throw at the U20 USATF Championships June 27 in Eugene, Ore. after a personal-best throw of 72.58m (238-1), which punched his ticket to Cali's World Championships. That mark ranks 12th in the field entering competition.
The Nazareth, Pa. native had a sold freshmen season as a Nittany Lion in 2022 in which he qualified and participated in the NCAA East preliminaries in both hammer throw and javelin in the outdoor season.
Burkhart took seventh place in the hammer throw and third in javelin at the Big Ten Championships in mid-May. He also won a gold medal in his Penn Relays debut with a victory in the College Men's Hammer Throw division.
Onwuka was a member of Penn State's 4x400 meter relay team that placed 21st at the NCAA finals June 8 in Eugene, Ore. He was named an honorable mention All-American as one leg of the relay.
Individually, Onwuka had a ran a personal-best 400m time of 47.32 at the African U20 Championships which earned him a spot on the U20 Nigerian team.
