BUFFALO, N.Y. - Penn State women's hockey student-athletes Tessa Janecke and Kiara Zanon will compete for the United States as part of its 2022 Collegiate Select Team roster, which is also being led by Penn State associate head coach Allison Coomey.
The team will compete in a three-game series against Canada Aug. 17, 18, and 20.
"It has been a few years since this team has been able to compete. We're excited to head up to Canada for our series," said Coomey. "We have a lot of talented collegiate players that we know will represent Team USA proudly."
The U.S. Collegiate Women's Select Team is normally referenced as the U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team, but due to not playing the past two years, all players with collegiate eligibility were able to make the team.
Each of Penn State's three representatives on the Collegiate Select Team roster are no strangers to international hockey with Team USA. Janecke most recently competed for the U.S.'s 2022 U18 World Championship roster and scored six points (3G, 3A) and earned a silver medal.
Zanon has participated at multiple USA Hockey Women's National Festivals and played on two U18 World Championship rosters. She scored the golden goal in overtime to win the gold medal for the U.S. over Canada back in 2020.
Coomey has various coaching experiences with USA Hockey in addition to being named head coach for the 2022 Collegiate Select Team roster. She was a team scout for the USA National Team roster at the 2022 Beijing Games and was named the U22 Women's Select Team head coach in 2021.
