KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Penn State women's soccer student-athletes Penelope Hocking and Ally Schlegel were named to the United Soccer Coaches 2022 NCAA Division I Players to Watch – Forwards list on Tuesday.
The list is comprised of United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2021, who are scheduled to return for the 2022 season.
Schlegel and Hocking are two of 41 women on the list. Leading the list are seven All-Americans, which include Hocking who earned third-team selection last season with USC.
A transfer to Penn State this season, Hocking became USC's all-time leading scorer in 2021. The forward surpassed USC's program record of 48 career goals, breaking a mark which had stood for 21 years. Her 54 career goals are the 12th most scored in Pac-12 history.
Last season, Hocking scored 12 goals, notched six assists and posted 30 total points.
Schlegel debuts on the list after earning All-North Region Second Team honors in 2021. She was also named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. She finished the season with 24 points on a team best ten goals to go with four assists.
In the 2021 NCAA Tournament, Schlegel accounted for three goals and an assist as she helped lead the Nittany Lions to the Sweet 16 for the seventh time in eight seasons.
The Nittany Lions open the 2022 season on Thursday, August 18 against Georgetown at 7 p.m. on Jeffrey Field.
