Amelia White Earns B1G Freshman of the Week Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State women's soccer forward Amelia White picked up her first collegiate accolade as she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.

White notched an assist in each of her first two collegiate matches last week. The true freshman made her collegiate debut off the bench on Aug. 18 against No. 19 Georgetown and racked up 57 minutes and then notched 45 minutes of action against Duquesne on Aug. 21.

White shares the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor with Naomi Splittorff of Purdue who had the first goal in the Boilermakers' 3-0 win over No. 15 USC and one shot in their 0-1 loss to Vanderbilt.

Against Georgetown on Thursday, White would earn her first collegiate point as she split two defenders and sent the ball to redshirt senior Ally Schlegel who knocked in a game tying goal. PSU would draw with Georgetown 2-2.

On Sunday, White again came off the bench and just before halftime, wrestled the ball away from a defender in the Dukes' territory. White faked out the defender on the near corner and sent an arcing cross toward the box, which was headed in by junior Elle Kershner to put PSU up 2-0 in the first half. Penn State would win 3-0.

White is currently tied with senior Kate Wiesner with two assists on the young season.

Next, the Nittany Lions will host regional-foe West Virginia on Thursday, Aug. 25 with kickoff at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.

The Penn State women's soccer season is presented by the Smeal College of Business.
