Women's Hockey Earns No. 14 Preseason Ranking

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 2022-23 Penn State women's hockey team heads into the new season ranked 14th by USCHO.com in its women's college hockey preseason poll announced on Monday.

The Nittany Lions have received a ranking in the USCHO preseason poll for the second year in a row, after earning the No. 9 spot before last season. Penn State is the only CHA team to be ranked in the preseason poll, with Syracuse and Mercyhurst each receiving votes.

The 2021-22 Nittany Lions had an 18-10-5 record overall last season, earning a school-record for most wins in a season. Penn State rose as high as No. 9 in last year's ranking and held on to the No. 12 spot for two weeks in December.

Head coach Jeff Kampersal and the Nittany Lions return 15 student athletes from last year's roster, including 2021 CHA Player of the Year Kiara Zanon, two-time All-CHA honoree Mallory Uihlein and Women's Hockey Goaltender of the Year semifinalist, Josie Bothun.

Penn State will begin the 2022-23 season at home in Pegula Ice Arena with a nonconference series against the third-ranked team in the nation, Wisconsin. The home opening series is set for Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22-23, with both games beginning at 7 p.m.
