UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State freshman Tessa Janecke was selected the College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week by the league on Monday afternoon for her performance Sept. 22-23 against then-ranked No. 2/3 Wisconsin.
This comes just after Penn State moved up three spots in the national rankings to No. 11 per USCHO.com.
Janecke opened the scoring for Penn State's 2022-23 campaign and helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 4-1 win over the Badgers, their highest-ranked win in program history. Janecke posted three points for the weekend and scored her first and second career goals while also adding a late assist in Thursday's game. She led the team in blocked shots with five.
The freshman currently ranks second in the CHA and fifth nationally with three points on the year, only one short of four individuals tied for first. Her three-point effort on Thursday was the first by a Penn State freshman since Kiara Zanon's three assists on Feb. 19, 2021, versus RIT.
Janecke is the first Nittany Lion to receive a conference award this season.
