Parking and Traffic Impacts for Friday’s Athletics Events and Homecoming Parade

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – With Penn State's annual Homecoming Parade starting Friday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m., several traffic and parking restrictions will be in place for Friday's athletics events - field hockey (6 p.m.), men's hockey (7 p.m.) and men's soccer (7 p.m.). Fans are encouraged to arrive early and should note changes that will assist with traffic flow and parking.
 
Transportation Services announced traffic, parking and transit impacts related to Penn State's annual Homecoming Parade, which will wind through campus and downtown State College Friday, Oct. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. 
 
Men's Hockey Parking
Parking for men's hockey will be available at Stadium West, Jordan East, and Porter North with pre-paid parking available for $5.50 through psu.parkmobile.io, or day-of cash parking for $10.   
 
The Yellow H Shields and Wagner lots will be reserved beginning at 4 p.m. for men's hockey premium permit holders only. Premium permit holders will be able to enter these lots until 5:30 p.m., after which parking will only be available in the Stadium West and Jordan East lots, where premium permits will be accepted.
 
Field Hockey Parking
Parking for field hockey will be available at Stadium West, Jordan East, and Porter North with pre-paid parking available for $5.50 through psu.parkmobile.io, or day-of cash parking for $10.   
 
Due to the men's hockey game at Pegula Ice Arena, field hockey parking will not be permitted at the Yellow H lots near Wagner and Shields buildings or South of Pegula next to Holuba Hall.
 
Men's Soccer Parking
Parking for men's soccer will be available at Stadium West, Jordan East, and Porter North with pre-paid parking available for $5.50 through psu.parkmobile.io, or day-of cash parking for $10.   
 
Parade-Related Road Closures
To accommodate the parade, the following roadways will be closed on Friday (see times for closing below): 

  • Porter Road between Curtin Road and the southernmost entrance to the Jordan East parking area from 4:30 p.m. until parade units have left the area (expected to be around 6 p.m.). 
  • Curtin Road between University Drive and Porter Road from 4:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade.
  • Curtin Road between University Drive and Bigler Road from 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade. 
  • Bigler Road between Curtin Road and Pollock Road from 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade. 
  • Pollock Road between Bigler Road and Shortlidge Road from 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade. 
  • Shortlidge Road between Pollock Road and College Avenue from 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade. 
  • College Avenue between Shortlidge Road and Burrowes Road from 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade. 
  • Burrowes Road between College Avenue and Curtin Road from 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade.

The parade route will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the parade. Parking along the route will be restricted. Motorists must remove parked vehicles on College Avenue prior to the start of the parade.
 
New Bag Policy for Pegula Ice Arena
Please be advised the University has updated their bag policy for the 2022-23 season.

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVB and are 12"x6"x12" or smaller are permitted.
  • Small clutches or wristlets that are 4"x6"x1" are also permissible.

 
All clear bags and patrons are subject to metal detection and/or bag inspection upon entering the venue.

Safety Reminders for Pedestrians
All fans walking from our parking areas are reminded to use the designated sidewalks and the cross walks at the intersections surrounding Pegula Ice Arena. Please avoid crossing mid-block due to the high traffic volume expected during the evening hours with less visibility.
 
ADA Parking
ADA parking for Friday's men's hockey game will be available at the southwest corner of Stadium West near the intersection of University Drive and Curtin Road. This parking area is only accessible via Park Avenue. A valid state-issued ADA placard or license plate is required, along with a valid Penn State permit, pre-payment via ParkMobile or payment upon entering the lot.
 
Fans may use the circle at Lot Yellow H South near Gate C for drop off and pick up. Please note, however, that no public parking is available at Lot Yellow H South.
