MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- Former Penn State women's hockey forward Brooke Madsen (Eagan, Minn.) has signed a professional contract with the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Premier Hockey Federation for the 2022-23 season. She becomes the second Nittany Lion to play professional hockey for the Whitecaps.
"I wanted to continue playing hockey in my home state at a competitive level after my college hockey career was over," Madsen said on the Whitecaps website. "My teammates can expect me to bring energy and intensity to every practice, workout and game."
Madsen spent four seasons with the Nittany Lions, serving as an assistant captain both her junior and senior season. The forward made a splash her freshman season, earning a spot on the CHA All-Rookie team with 21 points (7G, 14A). The forward finished her career with 47 assists, the second most in Nittany Lions program history. She finished fifth all-time in points (73) and fifth all-time with 26 career goals. She sits sixth on the all-time list in points per game with .52.
"Brooke always brings positive energy," said Penn State head coach Jeff Kampersal. "As a player, she is fast, relentless, and has skill. She never gets tired. I am happy Brooke will be playing for the Whitecaps and I look forward to watching her play again."
Whitecaps teammate Jenna Brenneman, who was drafted by Minnesota a year ago has re-signed with the team for the 2022-23 season. A fellow Eagan, Minn. native, Brenneman set single-season records for Nittany Lion goaltenders with 34 games played, 34 starts, and 2,030 minutes played while also tying a then Penn State record with 13 wins. She posted a 1.74 goals-against average with a .927 save percentage and tied another Nittany Lion record with four shutouts.
Her efforts in 2018-19 earned her All-CHA second team honors as well as three CHA Goaltender of the Week awards. She was also named to the Let's Play Hockey Team Minnesota All-NCAA Division 1 first team.
