Penn State Swimming & Diving faces Pitt and Notre Dame on the Road

University Park, Pa. – Penn State swimming and diving travels to Pittsburgh to face Pitt and Notre Dame in their second road-meet of the season. 
 
Both men's and women's teams begin competition at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 21, returning for a second day at Trees Pool Saturday, October 22 at 11 a.m. 

The Nittany Lions: 
After a triumphant tri-meet against Navy and Boston that included 12 individual event victories, the women's squad look to maintain their winning records against Pitt, 22-9, and Notre Dame, 1-0. The men's team, who also beat Boston College but took a close loss to Navy, claimed nine individual events. They'll hope to add to their all-time series results against the Fighting Irish and the Panthers, which stand at 1-0 and 16-34 respectively. 
 
Three swimmers tabbed for Big Ten weekly awards on Wednesday highlight this year's Nittany Lions. Sophomore record-holder Victor Baganha claimed the men's swimmer of the week while Julia Meisner and Mariano Lazzerini collected the women's and men's freshmen of the week honors. On the road in Annapolis, Baganha earned a pair of individual victories in the 100 Fly (47.64) and 50 Free (20.00) while Lazzerini took the 100 Breast (54.55) and Meisner the 200 Fly (2:01.42) and 200 IM (2:04.14).
 
The Panthers: 
Last year, after placing 11th and ninth in the ACC, Pitt's women's and men's swimming and diving teams sent four athletes to the NCAA Championships, three of whom return this season. 
 
The Fighting Irish: 
Notre Dame's women posted a 4-0 regular-season record last year, won the Tim Welsh Classic, placed sixth in the ACC and sent three athletes to the NCAA Championships. Their men's team earned 4 season victories and eighth place in the ACC before sending four relays and three individual swimmers to the national championships.
