Clifford Earns Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State redshirt senior quarterback Sean Clifford was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Clifford tallied 295 passing yards and tied a career high with four passing touchdowns to lead No. 13 Penn State to a 45-17 win over Minnesota on Saturday.
 
Clifford picked up his second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor this season. He also earned it on September 5 after his performance at Purdue.

  • Clifford made his 40th career start on Saturday against Minnesota.
  • Completed 23-of-31 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
  • Clifford became the career completions leader at Penn State, passing Trace McSorley (720; 2015-18) for the all-time record. Clifford has 722 career completions.
  • Clifford tied a career high with four touchdown passes. He had four touchdown passes on four previous occasions, last at Purdue.
  • Clifford connected with Tyler Warren on a 38-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Later in the quarter, Clifford threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Theo Johnson.
  • The redshirt senior connected with Parker Washington on a 35-yard score in the third quarter. He then threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell Tinsley late in the quarter.
  • Clifford earned his 29th career game with multiple touchdown passes, 15th career game with three touchdown passes and fifth career game with four touchdown passes.
  • Clifford has now recorded multiple touchdown passes in a half for 21 times in his career and has recorded multiple touchdowns in a quarter on 14 occasions
  • On a 4-yard pass in the first quarter, Clifford went over the 9,000 career passing yards mark, becoming the second Nittany Lion to earn 9,000 career passing yards. He currently has 9,284 yards.
  • Clifford earned his 23rd career game with 200 passing yards.
  • Clifford collected his 10th career game with 250+ passing yards and three or more passing touchdowns.
  • The redshirt senior sits as the all-time leader at PSU in completions (722) and completion percentage (60.6), while ranking second in passing touchdowns (75) and passing yards (9,284), third in passing efficiency (142.2), attempts (1,192) and rushing yards by a quarterback (1,038), fourth in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (14), tied fourth in wins as a starting quarterback (27), sixth in lowest interception percentage (2.26), tied seventh in yards per pass attempt (7.8) and ninth in touchdown pass percentage (6.29).
  • Is represented on the Davey O'Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Manning Award, Maxwell Award, Reese's Senior Bowl, Walter Camp Player of the Year and Wuerffel Trophy.

 
No. 13 Penn State hosts No. 2 Ohio State for the Penn State Stripe Out game on Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon in Beaver Stadium with a broadcast on FOX.
 
Penn State will host Big Noon Kickoff, FOX's college football pregame show, live from University Park for the first time ever on Saturday. The broadcast will begin at 10 a.m. and lead up to kickoff between the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes at noon.
