ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Olivia Wallin's late third period goal sealed the first College Hockey America victory of the year as No. 12 Penn State defeated Lindenwood 4-3 on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lindenwood got on the scoreboard first 13:33 into the opening period on the power-play to take a 1-0 lead.
- Just two minutes later, Penn State evened the game up at 1-1 off an unassisted goal by Alyssa Machado for her third of the year.
- The Lions would take the lead again in the second period off a power-play goal by Morgan Neitzke to put Lindenwood ahead 2-1.
- On the Nittany Lion penalty-kill, freshman Tessa Janecke found the back of the net on a wraparound goal to tie the game again at 2-2.
- The Nittany Lions tallied two more goals first by Izzy Heminger 15:29 into the second period and Olivia Wallin scored the game winner with 16:17 remaining in the third frame.
- A second goal by Neitzke with seven seconds left in the third wasn't enough as Penn State secured the 4-3 victory.
GOALTENDING
- Josie Bothun recorded 17 saves on 20 shots to capture her fifth victory of the season.
GAME NOTES AND STATS
- Both teams had a combined 14 penalties in the game, seven on both sides.
- Tessa Janecke tallied her third multi-point game of the year.
- The Nittany Lions are now 25-11-6 all-time against Lindenwood.
- Penn State ups their winning streak to three.
