No. 11/12 Women’s Hockey Begins Series with No. 6 Colgate Friday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The No. 11/12 Penn State women's hockey team returns to Pegula Ice Arena to host No. 6 Colgate for a two-game series starting on Friday.

THIS WEEK'S MATCHUP 

  • The Nittany Lions return home to Pegula Ice Arena as they host No. 6 Colgate for a two-game set starting Friday. 
  • It is the first matchup against Colgate since the 2018-19 season.  
  • This is the seventh time the two teams have faced each other. 

 
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS 

  • The Raiders enter Friday's series with a 3-0-0 record sealing wins against Syracuse and two wins over Mercyhurst. All three wins were shutout victories.  
  • Colgate earned the No. 6 spot in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll and USCHO.com poll.
  • The Raiders have returned top goaltender Kayle Osborn who has played most of the minutes this season. She appeared in 20 games last season registering a save percentage of .911 and a 1.95 GAA. 
  • In the 2020-21 season she was a Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year finalist. She enters Friday's matchup with a 2-0 record and two shutout victories.  

 
CORREIA CRUSIN'

  • Forward Courtney Correia tallied her first career hat trick against St. Lawrence as she pushed the Nittany Lions to a 4-2 victory. 
  • The graduate student currently leads the team in goals with three on the year while is tied for second in points with four.   
  • She ranks first in the nation in goals scored as she has tallied three on the year. Correia picked up CHA Forward of the Week honors for her play at St. Lawrence as well. 

 
BOTHUN MAKING SAVES

  • Junior goaltender Josie Bothun has complied a total of 112 saves on the year which is the second most shots the netminder has saved in the first four games of her career.
  • She tallied a season high 30 saves against Minnesota Duluth on Sept. 30.

KAMPERSAL CLOSING ON 400

  • Head coach Jeff Kampersal currently sits with 399 wins in his coaching career. 
  • He currently sits sixth in women's ice hockey coaches history in total wins. 
  • Kampersal began his head coaching career in 1996 and has tallied a record of 399-320-93.

 
SPREADING THE WEALTH

  • Seven Nittany Lions in just four games have tallied multiple points. 
  • Courtney Correia and Kiara Zanon are tied for the lead in points at four a piece.

 
BLOCKING MACHINES

  • The Nittany Lions this season are averaging 13.54 blocked shots per game which is almost twice the amount as their opponents. 
  • Leading the way in blocked shots this season is Tessa Janecke with eight on the year. She tallied five of the eight shots against Wisconsin in the team's season opener.

 
REPPIN' TEAM USA 

  • This offseason saw several Nittany Lions play for Team USA. 
  • Kiara Zanon and Tessa Janecke headlined the 2022 USA Collegiate Select Team with associate head coach Allison Coomey leading the way.  
  • Janecke also earned a spot on Team USA's U18 World Championship roster, scored six points (3G, 3A) throughout the tournament, and helped lead the squad to a silver medal.  
  • Zanon, also no stranger to international competition, has participated at multiple USA Hockey Women's National Festivals and played on two U18 World Championship teams. 
  • Coomey has held various positions with USA Hockey, including as a team scout with the USA National Team during the 2022 Beijing Olympics where they won the silver medal. 
  • Alongside Zanon and Janecke, junior goaltender Josie Bothun and senior defenseman Mallory Uihlein were invited to the 2022 USA Women's National Fesitval in Buffalo, N.Y. this past August.

  • Parking for Penn State Women's Ice Hockey games at Pegula Ice Arena will be available at the following locations beginning two hours prior to the start of each game: 
  • Stadium, West, Jordan East, Porter North 
  • No charge with a valid Penn State parking pass

  • $10 day-of-event without a valid permit or prepayment (pay station or ParkMobile app – zone no. 95112) 
  • ParkMobile prepayment availability ends at 11:59 p.m. the night before each event. Events will not be selectable on the site after that time, and payment must then be made on site upon arrival to event parking staff (cash only).
