Penn State Men’s Swimming & Diving Begins the Season with Victory Against Boston College and Loss to Navy

Annapolis, Md. – Penn State men's swimming & diving beats Boston, 212-86, and takes loss to Navy, 148-150 on the road at Lejeune Hall in their season-opening meet.
 
Sohomore Victor Baganha and freshman Hayden Elliott shone, each winning two individual events while the Nittany Lions' breaststroke squad swept their events.
 
Top Swims 
Baganha won both the 100 Fly (47.64) and 50 Free (20.00), leading junior Jake Houck to second (20.59) in the latter. 
 
Penn State's breaststroke squad demonstrated their strength in the pool. Freshman Mariano Lazzerini (54.55) led the senior Daniel Raisanen to a first and third (55.07) place in the 100 Breast, while record-holder Raisanen (1:59.41) raced to victory in the 200 with Lazzerini (2:00.47) close behind. 
 
Top Dives 
Freshman diver Hayden Elliot impressed by winning both the 1-Meter (279.20) and the 3-Meter Dives (350.30). 
 
Relays
The Nittany Lions began the meet with a decisive victory in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Byrne, Raisanen, Baganha and Lazzerini touched first in 1:28.81, beating the Midshipmen and Eagles by over a second. 
 
As the day concluded, Penn State placed second to Navy in the 400 Free Relay – Baganha, senior Lachlan Byrne, Lazzerini and junior Tommy Hurley swam to a time of 3:00.76.
