No. 11/11 Women's Ice Hockey Set For Two-Game Series at No. 6/6 Yale

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The No.11/11 Penn State women's ice hockey team hits the road to begin a two-game road series at No.6/6 Yale Friday at 6 p.m.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

  • Penn State heads to Yale for their sixth and seventh time this season. Six of those times would be road games.

HISTORY

  • This is the second time the two teams have met in history as both teams are looking for their first win against each other. The last time they faced was on Nov. 25, 2017, when they tied 2-2 in Storrs, Conn.

EVEN STRENGTH

  • Yale features an even eight freshman and eight seniors on their roster. Two freshman sit in the top four on the team in points. Three Bulldogs are tied for first in goals with three with two are tied for second on the team in assists.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

  • The Nittany Lions look to hand Yale it's first loss of the season as they enter the series with a 4-0-0 record. 
  • Yale has defeated two ranked teams this season which includes a 4-2 victory over fifth ranked Quinnipiac.
  • Leading the offense is sophomore Anna Bargman who has tallied three goals and four assists. 
  • Two other freshman join the top of the team in points. 
  • Between the pipes stands sophomore Pia Dukaric who has started in all four games as she records a GAA of 1.00 and a save percentage of .963. 

POWER-PLAY UPTICK

  • The Nittany Lions power-play goal efficiency has jumped recently.
  • Penn State has scored on the power-play six times in the last seven games so far this season.
  • The Nittany Lions sit 19th in the nation in power-play percentage at 20.4%.

CLOSING IN ON 1500

  • Junior goalie Josie Bothun currently sits at 1481 saves in her career. She has a strong shot this weekend to secure 1500 for her career.
  • Bothun will be the fourth goalie in program history to hit the 1500 mark.
  • The Wyoming, Minn. native has tallied 341 saves so far this season.
  • She was also named Goaltender of the Week this week for her play against Brown which included one shutout. 

ZANON TOP SHELF

  • Junior Kiara Zanon captured her first CHA Forward of the Week award of the season on Tuesday.
  • Zanon had a three-point day against Brown on Sunday with one goal and a pair of assists.
  • Zanon leads the team in assists with 11 and sits tied for first on the team in points with 18.
  • The junior captured a CHA Forward of the Month nod as well in October.

SITTING ON TOP OF THE POLLS

  • Penn State has been ranked in the top 15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey national polls for eight of the nine weeks this year.
  • The Nittany Lions moved up one slot in USCHO poll from #12 to #11.

UP NEXT

  • The Nittany Lions will head to Las Vegas, Nevada to play in the Henderson Collegiate Hockey Showcase starting on Friday, Nov. 25 as they face No. 2/2 ranked Minnesota. Puck-drop is set for 7 p.m. ET.
